기타 한미연합회 포함 20개 이상 지역사회 단체는 LA 통합교육구에 아시안 증오범죄 문제 해결을 촉구

주제: 

한미연합회 및 20여개 지역사회 단체들은 LA통합교육구 소속 학교에서 발생하는 아시안 인종차별, 증오범죄와 반아시아 정서를 막기 위해 필요한 대책을 논의하기 위한 기자회견을 개최한다. 

LA 교사노조(UTLA)를 포함한 20개 이상의 단체들은 학교 직원과 교사들에게  모든 반아시안 폭력과 괴롭힘을 신고하고 해결하기 위한 지역사회 중심 교육을 제공하고 전 지역차원의 프로토콜을 수립하기 위하여 LA통합교육구(LAUSD)와 전적으로 협업하기로 하였다. 또한, 이들 단체들은 2019년에 LA통합교육구가 학생들의 사회적, 정서적 필요와 상황을 더 잘 반영하고 지원하기 위해 학생의 인종⋅민족성 데이터를 세분화 하겠다고 한 약속을 재확인할 것을 촉구한다.

이유: 

아시아태평양계(AAPI) 사람들을 향한 증오범죄의 심각한 증가로 인해 학부모와 학생들은 학교 캠퍼스에 복귀하는 것을 심히 우려하고 있다. 캘리포니아 샌 버나디노 주립대 증오·극단주의 연구센터가 전국 16개 관할구역의 경찰 데이터를 분석한 결과, 2021년 1분기 아시안 증오범죄 신고가 지난 해 같은 기간에 비해 164%가 증가한 것으로 나타났다.  로스앤젤레스에서는 80%가 증가하였다.

Korean American Coalition – Los Angeles and Over 20 Community Groups  

Call On LA Unified School District to Address Anti-Asian Hate  

 Parents and Students Express Concerns about Returning to School In-person 

What:  

Korean American Coalition-Los Angeles (KAC) along with over 20 Community Groups will host a news conference to discuss measures needed to prevent anti-Asian sentiment, bullying and hate among students, staff and teachers.  

UTLA and more than 20 other organizations are committed to working with LAUSD to provide community-centered training for staff/teachers and establish district-wide protocols for reporting and addressing any level of anti-Asian violence or bullying. The community groups are also calling on LAUSD to reaffirm its 2019 commitment to disaggregate student ethnic data to better support the unique social and emotional needs of students.  

Why:  

Parents and students are concerned about returning to campus for the next school year given the alarming increase in hate crimes against Asians and Pacific Islanders.  The Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at Cal State San Bernardino examined police data from 16 jurisdictions across the country, finding a 164 percent increase in reports of anti-Asian hate crimes in the first quarter of 2021 compared with the same period last year.  In Los Angeles, there was an 80 percent increase.
